The man formerly known as Marcus Cole, Statesman is the leader of the Freedom Phalanx and one of the most well-respected heroes in the world. Things got too dark for him after that and he figured he was better off being a Super Cop anyway.
Back-Alley Brawler partially retired in order to maintain this policy, because he has killed.
He nearly breaks it but Back-Alley Brawler gives him a sobering look at where that leads. Manticore is very very pro-lethal-force, but is out-voted by his teammates.Numina is actually dead and so less afraid of death than the rest but still against lethal force as a she feels that would be Jumping Off the Slippery Slope.
Synapse sees the logic of lethal force but is very much against using it, if only so things dont get too dark. He makes an exception for Darrin Wade after Statesman is killed, though he still says to just go for an arrest if Darrin actually co-operated, but otherwise green-lights lethal force so he doesnt lose any-other Phalanx members. Position follows Statesmans lead but morally is neutral to the idea, at first. Sister Psyche sees the benefit of lethal force but agrees it would be bad P.R. Statesman is the most adamant of the policy. If not out of morality than at-least for to keep in good standing with the police. Thou Shalt Not Kill: They all feel various ways about this, but maintain the policy. Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: They have very different personalities and perspectives, there are only two things that unite most of them - A desire to defend the public, and contempt for Statesman as their leader. Superpower Lottery: All of them got their abilities in various different ways - Statesman from a magical MacGuffin, Sister Psyche from random in-born mutation, Manticore from training with a retired special agent - his nanny, Synapse from being experimented on by a Mad Scientist, Positron from technological innovation, Citadel from being built this way, and Numina from a last-resort spell. As a result their accomplishments make the papers much easier than player-heroes. Spot Light Stealing Squad: They are the oldest, most consistent heroes who have cultivated P.R. They all serve as role-models of public heroics, even Manticore, just of the Anti-Hero flavor. Ideal Hero: All of them, to various degrees. Luckily such difference never consume them and protecting the public is the priority all of them share. Beneath the Mask: It is entirely possible to look no further into them than costumed Justice League knock-offs who protect the city and pose for photo-ops However even the slightest of a closer look will reveal a team that frequently bicker, debate lethal force and have various personalities and flaws. All-Loving Hero: Subverted, most look like this to the public, but almost all of them have various chips on their shoulders and Berserk Buttons.
